The psychology of Alice in Wonderland

I’m still figuring out weather to talk about Freud and his ideas about how and why people dream compared to what Alice is experiencing in her dream or individualism. The topic about dreams also has to do with “wish fulfillment” which of course has different answers due to the fact that Alice and Freud think differently. However during Alice experiences throughout the book, it’s not specific that she is in an actual dream but from small clues throughout, it can be concluded that she is in a deep dream. Individualism can represent Alice how she changes from different sizes by drinking or eating certain elements. As she grows small, she acts more like a child rather when she gets big, she assumes she’s an adult. Also her experiences with the different creatures she comes upon also is an example of individualism.

  1. You're examples of individualism sound like the stages of aging. I like the idea of connecting the psychological affects of the stages of aging with Alice. She goes through a lot of changes that relate to maturing and becoming an adult that you can focus on.

  3. I think you should go back to the story and look for evidence for each of your ideas. Work with the idea with the most evidence.

  4. I agree with Greg a lot.The topic of individualism are awesome and can also bring some theories of Freud. Your supporting details really connect. Try to go specific on your examples, like the setting, feelings and symbols that may represent certain things.

  5. As a topic dreams is very broad. I would suggest maybe taking a different approach by using Freud's teachings and ideas to analysis Alice. For example, using what you said about her experiences with the different creatures she comes across and taking into affect what "role" they play to her within her own life. Then further expanding on how;because of this, she reacts to them in a certain way.

  6. I think this a very good topic to start off with. Her age seems to play a huge part in her journey. If you narrow things down, this would be a very good paper. :D
